Optional Activities on Main Tour Paid Locally:

The following additions can be purchased during the trip and must be paid in cash only (U.S. dollars or Egyptian pounds). It is helpful to reserve these activities before departure, but you do not need to pay for them during registration. We will collect your cash payment for these additional options while on the tour.  

Pyramids

  • November 3: Giza Pyramids - Entry to walk inside the Great Pyramid of Giza also known as Cheops Pyramid: $35 per person (Entry is through a passageway that can be narrow and requires crouching or bending to navigate at times. Part of the passageway also includes a steep incline. Air inside the pyramid can be warm and humid.)
  • November 3: Saqqara Steps Pyramid - Underground corridors of Zoser Pyramid: $30 per person. (Some may need to crouch slightly in certain sections.)

Luxor

  • November 5:  Luxor - Early Morning hot air balloon ride over Luxor’s west bank: $150 per person

A hot air balloon ride in the early morning is a breathtaking way to see Luxor. Enjoy the world’s largest open-air museum from the sky as the rising sun hits the temples and lights up the green Nile banks. Early pick up (3:30–4:30 a.m) from your hotel will take you to the balloon to cruise the Egypt sky for 45-60 minutes. While professional cameras are prohibited on the ride, you may take pictures with your phone.

Upgrade Option for Hotel Accommodations on the Main Tour:

Each accommodation option has been carefully selected to provide comfort and an authentic experience during your journey. Hotel accommodations are standard rooms with twin beds at 5-star hotels on the main tour in Alexandria, Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, and Abu Simbel. You have the option to upgrade your hotel accommodations in Alexandria, Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, and Abu Simbel:

  • You may upgrade from a standard double room to a deluxe double room with king or queen bed for an additional $2,250 per person. Deluxe rooms are larger and offer the hotel’s best view. (Does not include room aboard the Dahabiya boat)
  • You may upgrade from a standard single room to a deluxe single room with king or queen bed for an additional $3,800 per person. Deluxe rooms are larger and offer the hotel’s best view.(Does not include room aboard the Dahabiya boat)

Upgrade Option for Rooms Aboard the Dahabiya Boat on the Nile Cruise:

We will be sailing in dahabiyas for four nights on the Nile River. A dahabiya is a semi-luxury small vessel Egyptian sailboat that has been modernized to provide a comfortable and private cruising experience. Dahabiyas can accommodate between 12–28 members. Each cabin has a private bathroom, air conditioning and beds. Dahabiyas are accompanied by a tugboat, which provides additional power and stability during the journey. The tugboat ensures smooth and safe navigation along the Nile River, especially during periods of weak winds.

Dahabiya standard cabins contain two single twin beds. There are a limited number of suites on each Dahabiya with a larger bed, more space, and better views. This upgrade to your cabin for four nights is available for $2,000 per cabin.

Upgrade Option for Hotel Rooms on Jordan Extension 

Each accommodation option has been carefully selected to provide comfort and an authentic experience during your journey. Hotel accommodations are standard rooms with twin beds at 5-star hotels. You have the option to upgrade your hotel accommodations from a standard room to a deluxe room with king or queen bed for an additional $1,300 per room. Deluxe rooms are larger and offer the hotel’s best view.

ON-TOUR FLIGHT UPGRADE OPTIONS

All flights included in the Main Tour, Sinai Post Tour, and Jordan Extension are booked in economy class approximately 90–120 days prior to departure. Domestic flights within Egypt will be operated by EgyptAir, Air Cario, or Nile Air. The flight from Egypt to Jordan will be operated by EgyptAir or Royal Jordanian Airlines.

Upgrade requests to business class are available for:

  • All flights during the main tour in Egypt: $300 per person
  • All flights during the main tour in Egypt and on the Sinai post tour: $400 per person
  • The flight from Cairo to Jordan on the Jordan extension: $550 per person

Please note that all upgrade requests are subject to airline availability at the time of ticketing. If a confirmed business class upgrade for any domestic flight segment is not available and you are placed in economy class, you will be refunded the upgrade fee per flight leg.

PAYMENT TERMS

To complete your registration and secure your spot on the trip, you must make your first payment. Principia accepts payment by ACH (automatic withdrawal from your bank account) and credit card. To help Principia save on payment processing fees, please consider using ACH. Credit card payments will incur a 2% processing fee. 

Payments may be made in up to 10 monthly installments with final payment due July 31, 2026. If your reservation is made within 120 days of the departure date, space may be limited and/or an increase in domestic airfare may apply.


CANCELLATION FEES

All cancellation and refund claims must be made in writing to pll@principia.edu.

In the event of a cancellation, the following cancellation policy shall apply:

  • $1,500 per traveler is non-refundable unless Principia can fill the cancelled registration with a new traveler. Additionally, a surcharge may apply for name changes and hotel rebookings -- up to $75 per traveler for the Egypt portion and $300–$500 per traveler for the Jordan extension, if applicable.
  • From 119–90 days prior to departure, full refund less $2,000 for Egypt and $750 for Jordan
  • From 89–60 days prior to departure, full refund less 50% of the total cost for Egypt. The same percentage-based refund applies to the Jordan extension as a separate component. 
  • From 59–45 days prior to departure, full refund less 75% of the total cost. The same percentage-based refund applies to the Jordan extension as a separate component. 
  • From 44 days to the day of departure, no refund
