John K. Andrews Sr.

John K. Andrews Sr. (US'38, C'42) was given the DKA award in 1997. After serving on the Principia staff, John left in 1955 to found the Sky Valley Ranch for Boys in Buena Vista, Colorado. Four years later he and his wife Marianne (Hutchinson, C'45) added a similar program for girls, Round-Up Ranch. In 1962 they formed Adventure Unlimited as a nonprofit corporation that includes the camps and local chapters for young Christian Scientists. John stepped down from full-time participation in 1983 to become chairman emeritus. John then expanded his service to children through Rotary Clubs' youth programs. John served twice as chairman of The Seventy for Principia, was active as class agent, and helped establish the Gold & Blue Athletic Fund. He delivered the Upper School commencement address in 1994. The four Andrews children graduated from the Upper School and College.
