Coach Howard Mitchell

Prior to the formation of the Prairie College Conference in 1953, two of Coach Mitchell’s football teams were undefeated. After its formation, Howard coached three Prairie Conference championship teams, one of which was undefeated. He also served as director of athletics and coached the men’s basketball and track teams for two seasons, along with his twelve seasons as football coach. Principia’s Howard L. Mitchell Athletic Award, given annually to an outstanding senior athlete, is named in his honor.
