Coach Steve Morgenthaler

The greatest honor has been to coach all those athletes who held to a fundamental and spiritual sense of life and well-being as Christian Scientists. Humble, fearless, and tough, they brought to their practices and competitions a faith and understanding unique to collegiate sports.”

“Morgen” coached the women’s soccer team from its first season in 1983 through 1995, with numerous players earning All-Conference and Academic All-American honors during that time. His teams won four St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Tournaments, and he is a four-time recipient of the SLIAC Coach of the Year Award. Several of his players set SLIAC records; two were named SLIAC Player of the Year; one was inducted into the SLIAC Hall of Fame; and five players received the Howard L. Mitchell Athletic Award. As a track coach from 1984–1996, Morgen coached several National qualifiers and All-Americans, including 2010 Hall of Fame Inductee Kathleen Kavana O’Shea, as well as Olympian Ngozi Mwanamwambwa Asinga, a 2006 Hall of Fame Inductee.
