From the Chapel Green to landscapes of the Southwest, Mason Williams (C’17) uses his art to capture the beauty of the world around him. With work featured in museums across the country, multiple publications, and several award recognitions, Mason has made a name for himself in the world of plein air painting.
This month, June 25–28, Mason returns to Principia for College Reunion, where he will lead a painting class with his former art professor, Duncan Martin (C’76). Ahead of his trip to campus, Mason reflects on his journey from the bluffs to the Southern California art scene and the impact Principia has had on his life and career.

“As I get paintings packaged and ready to ship back to Principia, I am reminded of my senior year when my journey as an artist began to take shape. I had just sold my work for the senior exhibition, and I was shipping a painting to a collector for the first time. Now, 10 years later, it has become routine.
