Malcom (Mac) Stitt (US'51, C'55)

A dynamic athlete, leader, and three-year letterman, Mac left an indelible mark on Principia athletics. As captain of the 1954 football team, he led them to an undefeated season, scoring 11 touchdowns and an extra point, securing the Prairie League Championship. That year, the team had fewer points scored against them than any of the 20 undefeated teams nationwide (119–12). Mac’s outstanding contributions on the field earned him the title of Most Valuable Player and the distinction of having his number 22 retired—the first time in Principia history.

In addition to setting school rushing records, Mac played all four years and contributed to the 1951 undefeated football season. His talents extended beyond football, competing on Principia’s basketball, track, and baseball teams.

After college, Mac pursued a career in insurance, eventually becoming president of Payan Stitt Insurance Corporation. His lifelong commitment to Christian Science and dedication to Christian Science youth was evident through his years teaching Sunday School and working with Adventure Unlimited, where he volunteered as a chapter advisor, served on their Board of Trustees for 11 years, eight as chairman, and as interim executive director for four years.

Mac always remained closely tied to Principia, serving in Principia Club leadership, volunteering on the Alumni Association Board (1984–1986), and frequently attending reunion events. In 2010, Mac and his teammates returned to campus to celebrate the 1954 Football Team’s induction into the Gold & Blue Athletic Hall of Fame.
