William “Howard” Kelsey (C’79)

Howard’s College athletic achievements launched a long and storied basketball career. Forty-five years after graduating, he holds the record for his career scoring average of 26 points per game. He finished his junior season averaging 29 points per game, which placed Howard third in NCAA Division III and second for single-season scoring average at Principia. A native of Vancouver, he went on to play on Canada’s National Basketball Team for 11 years, helping Canada capture its first FISU men’s basketball gold medal in 1983 and played on the Canadian Olympic basketball team twice, reaching 4th place in the 1984 Olympics. He was inducted into the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame and the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame. Following his playing career, he became the executive vice-president of Canada Basketball.

Kelsey
