David Andrews

David began his sixty-year association with Principia as a student in the Lower School. Always admired for his strong leadership abilities, he served as student commandant of the cadet corps at the Upper School and president of the student body while at Principia College. In addition, his athletic experiences––which included being a member of the undefeated 1933 College football team––were extensive and significant to him becoming a lifelong character educator.

David served The Principia School in many roles including houseparent, teacher, coach, principal, and headmaster. In 1961––forty years after first coming to Principia as a student––David became president of both Principia campuses. After retiring in 1981, he remained active as an advisor for the College’s Public Affairs Conference and taught many Principia Adult Continuing Education (PACE) courses. In 1994, the David K. Andrews Distinguished Alumni Award was established in his honor.
