Charles "Chuck" Griffin Cale (C'61)

During his time on campus, Chuck could always be found on the playing field—whether supporting his house through intramural football and basketball or excelling at the varsity level as a team leader. Chuck was a member of Coach Howard Mitchell’s football team his freshman year and ran track for four years under Coach Crafton. After his freshman year, he stopped playing football in order to focus on track and basketball. Chuck was an exceptional runner and pole vaulter, setting Prairie Conference records in the pole vault and mile relay.

After successful track and field and basketball careers at Principia College, Chuck continued to distinguish himself in both sports and business. He earned an LLB from Stanford Law School and an LLM from the Gould School of Law at the University of Southern California. In addition to his years of service as an attorney, he has held several prominent positions in the sports industry, including a variety of roles with the U.S. Olympic Team and as a member of the Board of Directors of NIKE Inc.

Chuck has been at or on the field of play for many major sporting events around the world, and he received the French Gold Medal for Youth and Sports. He is recognized for demonstrating exceptional character in his many leadership positions and has continued to provide opportunities for student-athletes to succeed through his generous charitable contributions.

In addition to his law practice, Chuck is currently the managing member of Griffin Opportunities, LLC, an investment company. He and his wife, Jessie, live in Los Angeles, California. They have three children, Walter, Elizabeth, and Whitney.
