Hank and Margie Hamlin

Hank (US'41, JC'43) and Margie (Day, US'38) Hamlin became the first co-recipients of the David K. Andrews Distinguished Alumni Award in 2003. Long-time director of Publications and mass communication faculty member at Principia, Hank has produced three books — Other People, Other Places I and II, a collection of his photos from many corners of the world, and Principia's pictorial history, A Century of Progress. Margie served many years, first as Principia's Lower School librarian, then as resident counselor at the College and advisor to hundreds of international students on both Principia campuses. The Hamlin home has long been open to current and former international students. Margie has also been an off-campus Principia speaker as well as a freelance writer for The Christian Science Monitor and has co-authored four books. Both Hank and Margie have traveled extensively worldwide and have led Principia Abroads for both undergraduate and adult travelers. Both have also served in many branch church capacities, including First Reader. Hank and Margie first met as house parents on Principia's St. Louis Page and Belt campus.
