Dr. Jeremy and Sharon Carper

Dr. Jeremy (US’63, C’67) and Sharon (U’Ren, C'70) Carper together received the DKA in 2007. After teaching high school Spanish, working as a systems engineer for IBM and as an independent consultant in information technology for the St. Louis Police Department, Jeremy spent a year in Krakow, Poland, as a Fulbright Scholar. Then he began teaching at Principia College and served as associate professor of music until 1989. He received his Ph.D. in music from Washington University in St. Louis in 1983. Sharon received her master’s degree in education from University of Missouri in St. Louis, taught sixth grade in the St. Louis school system, and then taught at Principia Upper School. In 1989 the two left Principia to follow their love of international affairs into new careers in the United State Foreign Service. For 18 years, they served their country in Zambia, Ethiopia, Mali, Mauritania, and Venezula.Since retiring from the Foreign Service, Jeremy has become a Journal listed Christian Science practitioner. During Sharon’s years in the Foreign Service, she was a deputy regional refugee officer and a consular officer at American Embassies. Since 2004 she has been based in Washington D.C., as the State Department liaison for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
