Christopher Shays
Christopher Shays (C'68), U.S. Congressman from Connecticut, was chosen to receive the David K. Andrews Award in 1998 for his long career of service to his nation in government, as well as service to Principia and the Christian Science movement. Soon after college he and his wife Betsi served two years in the Peace Corps in the Fiji Islands. Before being elected to Congress in 1987, Chris served as a state representative in the Connecticut House for 13 years. In the U.S. Congress he has become nationally known for his work on the National Security, Veterans Affairs, and International Relations subcommittee of the House Government Reform Committee, and as a senior member of the House Budget Committee. He has led the crusade to clean up the way in which political campaigns are funded. Chris delivered the College Commencement address in 1989.
